This is hard to gain and even harder to maintain. Confidence is something that we all want to have. It’s something most of us think we have, until we’re threatened..that’s when we realize we aren’t as tough as we thought.
I like to think of confidence as rain inside a rain gauge. It comes and it goes. Our level of confidence is never the same. Sometimes we have days where it’s literally poured and the gauge is completely full. Then it gets warm out and the water in the gauge starts to evaporate little by little. This is a never-ending-cycle. You’ll even find that sometimes there is absolutely zero water left, and you have no idea what in the hell to do. I can tell you right now that giving up on yourself is not the option you should choose. That only scares the rain away. Just like with every other aspect in life, giving up will present itself as the easiest option—so that’s what most of us choose.
I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase, “fake it till’ you make it.” I believe that’s the secret formula to confidence. If you pretend to be confident in situations, the people around you won’t be able to tell it’s fake—then, eventually your brain will get the hint, and the rain will come again.
Don’t freak out if you’re in a place of low confidence. Although it’s hard, it’s also normal. Just like everything else, you have to work in order to have it. If your lack of confidence is with something that you can control—change it; if it’s with something you cannot control—accept it.
